MDAC requirements
A clear overview of what travellers need to have ready before completing the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card, and the wider requirements that apply when entering Malaysia.
Passport
- Valid for at least six months beyond the planned date of arrival
- At least two blank pages available for stamps
- Undamaged photo page and machine-readable zone
- Name and personal details that match the MDAC submission exactly
Travel itinerary
- Flight number, airline and arrival date for air travellers
- Vessel name and voyage number for cruise and sea arrivals
- Vehicle type and border post for land arrivals
- Onward or return ticket where required by the airline
Accommodation
The MDAC requires an address in Malaysia for the first night of the stay. Acceptable formats include a hotel or serviced apartment name with city and state, the street address of a private residence when staying with friends or family, or the name and city of a homestay booked through a recognised platform.
Contact information
- A working personal email address for the confirmation
- A mobile phone number with international dialling code (recommended)
Purpose and length of stay
Travellers state the main purpose of the visit (such as tourism, business, family visit, transit or medical treatment) and the expected length of stay in days. The length of stay should be consistent with any visa or visa exemption applicable to the traveller's nationality.
Visa and entry conditions
The MDAC is not a visa. Travellers who require a Malaysian visa must still obtain one separately through the appropriate channel (eVISA or Malaysian embassy). Visa-exempt nationals must still complete the MDAC. For a side-by-side comparison, see our article MDAC vs. visa: what is the difference?
Documents not required for the MDAC
The MDAC submission itself does not require any uploads or scans. The following are not part of the form, although some may be requested by an immigration officer on arrival:
- Copies of the passport page
- Hotel booking confirmations
- Proof of funds or bank statements
- Health insurance certificates
